The festival math
Downtown street closures shrink the road grid exactly when demand peaks. Rideshare surge during SXSW evenings is legendary, and the pickup zones move daily. The pros book scheduled rides at fixed times — into downtown before panels, out after the last showcase — and treat the quote they got in February as locked.
What works
- Hourly charters for teams. Brand and label teams keep one Sprinter on call all day — it becomes the mobile green room between venues.
- Scheduled AUS runs. The airport is only 15–25 minutes out, but festival-week traffic makes that 45+. Pre-booked pickup with flight tracking takes the gamble out.
