Temecula: Balloons at Dawn, Tastings by Noon
No California wine region does mornings like Temecula. At sunrise, dozens of hot-air balloons drift over the vines; by noon, the same people who watched the valley from a basket are tasting through it on the ground. It's Southern California's best one-day show.
The balloon-to-bottle day
- 5:30 AM — pickup from San Diego or Orange County; balloon companies launch at first light
- 6:30–8:00 AM — the flight: vineyards, ranches, and on clear days the ocean
- 9:00 AM — champagne landing breakfast (a ballooning tradition we endorse)
- 11:00 AM–4:00 PM — tastings along the De Portola trail and Rancho California Road, lunch at a winery restaurant
- 5:00 PM — asleep in the back seat by Oceanside. Perfect day.
