Becker Vineyards was established in 1992 by Richard and Bunny Becker in the Hill Country between Fredericksburg and Stonewall. An early force in the modern Texas wine movement, Becker was the first Texas winery to produce Viognier commercially, and its Viognier and Cabernet Sauvignon remain the wines it is best known for.
Tastings take place in a reproduction 19th-century German stone barn surrounded by rows of vines and the winery's well-known lavender fields. The estate is a relaxed, expansive stop on the 290 corridor, with both indoor and outdoor seating and room to wander.
Sample the wines Becker built its name on, including the Viognier and the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, in the stone-barn tasting room or out on the grounds. Walk-ins are welcome at the tasting room.
Worth knowing: Becker was the first Texas winery to commercially produce Viognier, and its wines have been poured at the White House.
