Domaine Carneros was founded in 1987 by the Champagne house Taittinger, built to make California sparkling wine by the same méthode traditionnelle used in Reims. The château that crowns the hill is modeled on Taittinger's Château de la Marquetterie, and its terrace looks south across the Carneros vineyards toward San Pablo Bay.
It is one of the few Napa estates where tastings are served at your table rather than at a bar — a calm, unhurried way to work through the sparkling lineup.
The house is known for its Brut Cuvée, Brut Rosé, and the late-disgorged Le Rêve Blanc de Blancs, alongside estate Pinot Noir. Seated flights are reservation-only and pair naturally with caviar, oysters, and cheese. All guests are 21 and over.
Worth knowing: Among the most prominent French Champagne investments in California, the château is one of the valley's most photographed landmarks.
