On the southwestern shore of Keuka Lake, the family estate that proved European vinifera could thrive in the Finger Lakes.
Founded in 1962 by Dr. Konstantin Frank, the winery was the first to successfully grow European vinifera grapes in the eastern United States, changing the course of Finger Lakes wine. Now run by the third and fourth generations of the Frank family, it remains best known for its dry Riesling and broad range of vinifera wines.
The tasting room sits high on the western hills above Keuka Lake, with sweeping water and vineyard views. Visits range from intimate seated tastings to vineyard walks and the immersive 1886 Wine Experience, with Eugenia's Garden offering a relaxed outdoor pour in season.
Signature seated tastings center on the estate's dry Rieslings and sparkling wines, with a guided Vinifera Vineyard Tour and the immersive 1886 Wine Experience available seasonally; reservations are recommended, especially on weekends.
Worth knowing: Credited with being the first to successfully cultivate European vinifera vines in the eastern U.S., launching the modern Finger Lakes wine industry.
